Structured light

Example of 3D digitizing and surface reconstruction
"Active lighting using fringe projection produces a cloud of dense 3D points representative of the surface of the part to be digitized.

A few characteristics of the digitizing process are :

  • Digitizing surface from mm2 to m2
  • Point density : up to 1 million points by acquisition
  • Acquisition duration : from 5 to 15 seconds
From a cloud of points, many applications are possible :
  • measurement of the dimensional deviations of a part by comparison with a master part
  • identification of a type of part with conformity checking (presence of accessories, inserts, etc...)
  • direct machining using the cloud of points
  • surface reconstruction and reverse engineering
  • dimensional inspection
Surface reconstruction consists in calculating CAD type surfaces (Béziers, Nurbs) using the support of a digitized cloud of points. This produces a CAD file (IGES format) of a part or object that has not initially been defined using a CAD tool.
