Research and development

The center operates in the world of research having a final industrial vocation.

The actions involved can be the following :

• Technical feasibility studies
• Adaptation of technology to specific needs
• Research and analysis of optical solutions for measurement problems

The projects are carried out on a partnership basis with the corporate world and possibly with research laboratories. Public financing is sometimes obtained for small companies. HOLO3 is approved for the "Research Tax Credit".

Example of Research projet : AMI 3D

The theme of this project is 3D object digitizing for art objects, combining color and surface textures.

In addition to HOLO3, two research laboratories are involved in this action : LIGIV (Laboratoire d’Informatique Graphique et d’Ingénierie de la Vision) at the St-Etienne University and LSIIT (Laboratoire des Sciences de l’Image de l’Informatique et de la Télédétection) at the Strasbourg Louis Pasteur University.

The problem :

• To simultaneously measure the shape and movement under difficult conditions : ovens, bursting enclosure, etc...
• Designing facilities adapted to these particular needs
• Avoiding the complete development of the technology

Approach :

• Analysis of need
• Bibliographical research and identification of adapted technologies
• Definition of development program and actions of each partner
• Production of development and milestones for the tasks of each partner

• Measurement equipment operating in difficult environments : ovens, bursting enclosures, confinement enclosures.

This project of developing a sensor by several partners came into being in 2002, durinf a congress concerning optical measurements, and really started up the following year. Above all, the approach is meant to be pragmatic, a way of gaining precious time with all the participants bringing in their skills in a particular field. Trusting relations were established and everybody is ready to reconsider their positions as developments take place.
